Liverpool and Chelsea kick-off time change in FA Cup final explained

Liverpool are gearing up to face Chelsea in the FA Cup final this weekend – but it may have attracted some attention with its rather unusual kick-off time.

The Reds beat Manchester City in the semi-final to reach the showpiece at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. Chelsea saw off Crystal Palace in their semi-final to set up a final against Liverpool.

It has been confirmed that the match will kick off at the unusual time of 4.45pm. This is different to previous years, where in the 2021 and 2020 FA Cup finals, kick off was at 5.15pm and 5.30pm respectively.

However, the kick-off time for this year’s final has been changed due to the Eurovision Song Contest. Due to BBC scheduling issues, the FA Cup final has been brought forward in a surreal turn of events.

Eurovision will be broadcasted from 6.15 to 7.15pm on BBC Two with the FA Cup final on BBC One until 7.15pm, assuming there is no extra time and penalties. Eurovision then takes over on BBC One from 8pm after a 45 minute break.

Should the match finish after 90 minutes, it will be concluded not long after 6.30pm. However if extra time and penalties are needed, the FA Cup final will impact the coverage of Pointless Celebrities which is planned between 7.15pm to 8pm.

This is the first time that Liverpool have reached the FA Cup final since 2012, which the Reds lost to Chelsea. For the London club, this is their third consecutive FA Cup final but they have lost their last two.
